The Shiv is a standard homemade knife quite popular in prisons. Weaker but quicker than the Fire Axe. "Shiv" or "shank" is a slang term for any inmate-made weapon. You find it in "Slick's" cell, stabbed in his chest, in your cell block at the beginning of the game. It may be found wielded by some inmates later on.
